Religious Communities in the Mediterranean in Interaction Tuebingen University, 25 February – 03 March 2007 Convenors: PD Dr Matthias Morgenstern (Tübingen, Chair), Professor Giovanni Filoramo (Torino), Dr. Katell Berthelot (Aix-en-Provence) The Tübingen winter school is aimed particularly at Ph.D. students who dedicate their study and research the comparative study of the Mediterranean religions. Students from Ramses2 network are welcome to send a CV with a short description of their research. Twelve students shall be informed of their participation. Travel and acommodation costs are covered by the organizers. The winter school is designed to include an excursion to one of the most prominent places of Christian Kabbala in Württemberg – the kabbalistic Shrine of Princess Antonia in Bad Teinach (Black Forest). The main topics are introduced by lecturers of the Ramses2 Programme who specialize in the field of the comparative study of religion. Workshops are dedicated to active student participation. Students have the opportunity to discuss the introduced topics and their own current research in the stimulating atmosphere. The topic The Mediterranean region as a unique geo-historical space from Gibraltar to the Middle East and from North Africa to the littoral EU member states comprises a wealth of ethnic, socio-cultural, national, and religious identities. Identity conceived of as a process “of the continuous making of the self through othering” challenges monolithic self-definitions modelled on the myth of self-contained and culturally autonomous national and religious traditions. On this basis, patterns of mutual exchange, of convergences and of disassociations can be seen as constitutive factors of cross-fertilisation and interaction in the formation and the co-existence of the various religious communities, such as the Catholic and Protestant churches, the Jewish people (including Karaism), the Orthodox oecumene, and the Islamic umma. The aim of the international workshop “Intertwined Worlds” is to analyse such processes through the conceptual lens of religious interaction by tracing interreligious phenomena such as syncretism, inculturation, participation, polemics, self-demarcation, schism, dialogue, and more, as instances of historical or actual discourses. It will critically re-examine modes of encounter which reflect, as well as shape, the potential of cross-Mediterranean integration. Focus will be on literary and textual documents and their receptions. The proposed format will include three main elements: · lectures · presentations of individual research projects · panel discussions

Thème : Dans la construction culturelle et politique des espaces méditerranéens, les rapports sociaux de sexe prennent des formes multiples et changeantes dans la cité et dans la famille. Les femmes occupent ainsi une place essentielle dans le domaine de la transmission du fait de la famille et de la puissance maternelle, de leur rôle dans l’apprentissage des mœurs et dans l’éducation. D'emblée est posée la question des rapports du féminin, des féminins avec la Cité. Ce terme désigne la Ville mais également l'espace public, le politique. La Cité devient le lieu d'exercice de la citoyenneté. La Révolution française a défini la Cité à la fois dans une dimension universelle mais également dans une perspective sélective de fait… et l'un des critères de ségrégation est l'appartenance sexuée. Dès lors, est inscrite dans l'espace public une frontière invisible qui exclut les femmes de la communauté des frères, de l'exercice du pouvoir politique… et pourtant les femmes n'en sont pas moins présentes et agissantes. Elles tissent du lien social, participent de l'opinion publique, interviennent dans le débat public comme nous l'ont démontré depuis plusieurs années de nombreuses recherches qui inventorient les négociations permanentes du féminin avec le Politique. La place des femmes dans la Cité, les droits qui leur sont accordés, l’attitude de la société vis-à-vis des actions innovantes des femmes, peuvent être des facteurs importants de différenciation entre les sociétés. Beaucoup de mutations actuelles s’ordonnent autour des femmes, de leurs statuts, de leurs droits, de leurs conditions de vie et de travail, de leurs comportements, de leurs revendications. Les interrogations sur les notions de divergence et convergence et la question de l’identité doivent donc être enrichies d’une réflexion, à dimension historique (de l’Antiquité à nos jours), sur la place des femmes dans la Cité, leurs droits politiques, les possibilités d’épanouissement d’une créativité féminine, les conséquences des rapports sociaux de sexes sur cette créativité qui peut s’exercer dans les différents champs de la société : politique, économie, activités sociales, culturelles et idéologiques. Ainsi peuvent être étudiés actions et engagements de femmes pour la ville. Dégagée de la norme et de la médiation masculines dominantes, la fabrique de la ville, tant dans sa dimension monumentale que sociale et politique, laisse entrevoir des interventions de femmes auxquelles on n'a pas toujours prêté attention. Il s'agit pour nous de rendre visible cet engagement féminin dans la cité en donnant la parole aux femmes engagées dans l'action à travers divers champs (actions philanthropiques, de charité, associations féminines, et autres.) Organisation : Des ateliers thématiques seront organisés sur 10 demi-journées (lundi matin et après midi, mardi matin et après midi, mercredi après-midi, jeudi matin et après midi, vendredi matin et après midi, samedi matin), l’après-midi du mercredi étant libre. Quatre conférences seront proposées les lundi, mardi, jeudi et vendredi en fin d’après-midi. Les étudiants pourront être accueillis pour 7 nuits du dimanche 9 septembre au dimanche 16 septembre.
